Check out this article for a Philipino's realistic view of weapons fighting and martial arts in general. http://www.realfighting.com/issue7/romyframe.html

interesting article i like the reference to the Spanish cut and thrust influence in Kali and how alot of instructor's have lost that concept, seem's like Romy had realy done the research.

Tend to agree with alot of what the author say's about real fighting versus gym fighting, and ending the fight quickly.

I take most of whats on that site with a grain of salt, i have heard this opinion on kali Illustrismo being so much better that the Inosanto Blend but I have spoken to instructors who hold teaching degrees in both styles and they see the only difference is the greater emphasis on sparring in KI. Keating loves to pit styles against styles.
There is some good info on the site just be aware of his propensity to dramatize differences to play up his own side.
Frankly some of his western vs eastern comparisons are a bit fanciful and lacking in historical backup.
