Just let me add some "behind the sence" thing to this post, hee hee.
First, I shall introduce myself. As you know my name is Alfred, Alfred Wong. I had been practising Chinese sword-dance for some times, and eventually gave them up because of my attitude towards sword. They are sort of "too romantic". And is not practical and useful, but is certainly entertaining to the common audiance. But no, even I, the one who dance it know that it's a dance only, I gave it up with my disappointment in Chinese Swordsmanship attitude nowadays in Hong Kong. People are only concerning "flourysh", or a "tao-lu", and that's DEFINITELY NOT what a true Martial Artist shall go after. Anyway a few months ago, intented or not, Lance started to told me things about European Swordsmanship, and until last month, I gave it a try. I borrowed Lance's "Medieval Swordsmanship", the renowned book by Mr. John Clements, as all of you know, I must, again, say that this is a very nice book, and is the most important book for serious Swordsman all over the world.
I bet you're familiar with Lance, the lonely swordsman that had practised European Swordsmanship over then years (I don't know the exact time), perhaps one of most famous Weapon researcher in Hong Kong, and we all have confident in his skill in Longsword.
James is someone that joined our sparring activity about the same time as me, we only get to know each other in these few weeks. We are now trying to make some extra armour out to use in the already-safe RSW sparring.
====================================
Now, these are my notes on fighting my opponents:
Lancelot bastard sword vs Alfred longsword (12.6mb real player)
http://lancelot.servehttp.com/15-8-04/la.zip >Please note that Lance's sword is shorter than my sword, and he wiped me out, skill difference, bah.
James sword and shield vs Alfred longsword (4.74mb real player)
http://lancelot.servehttp.com/15-8-04/ja.zip >A little improvement this time, but I still get hit lots. I shall also prevent form getting hit after hitting him. Tho' he possibly lost his balance after having his leg cut.
Alfred longsword vs Maurya Tulwar (12.4mb real player)
http://lancelot.servehttp.com/15-8-04/ma.zip >My sword is longer, but I am not used to fight some "active" people. And yes, I didn't get very much advantage from him. I shall learn more about "supressive cutting", right? And I shall not waste my stamina, some "extended attack" shall not be practised. (Some people joked that this is a Crusade, so I made the sign of the cross.)
>Also, note the last round. Zornhut -> Zwerchau! Thanks Mr. Ryan Ricks for that. Although it's not always useful
Alfred longsword vs Ali katana (5.5mb real player)
http://lancelot.servehttp.com/15-8-04/aa.zip >Ali is a Japanese Iaido player, nothing special, I just wait and hit. One point to note, he was making every possible mistake avaliable in Mr. JC book (that's why it's nice), and so, I knew his weakness (very nice book). These 10 rounds are easy.
>Please note that the last round I attempted a murdering strike. No, I was merciful and stopped that.
European swords group vs Asian swords group (14.4mb real player)
http://lancelot.servehttp.com/15-8-04/gp.zip >Euro or Asia? Place your bet before watching.
When watching thesee video, I evaluate myself and I have dropped down some point that I shall improve:
1. Continuous attack - I shall improve mt attacking rate.
2. Agility - You see that?
3. Stamina - Need more when fighting in group.
4. PRACTISE - not enough practise!
Please feel free to add more comments, I NEED your comments <img src="/forum/images/icons/laugh.gif" alt="" />
==========
BTW, this is a sparring video of me fighting Kalun:
http://lancelot.servehttp.com/15-8-04/kalun%20vs%20alfred%2015-8-04.rm This is not listed, nothing special at all. Kalun is not learning any kind of swordsmanship, please note that down.
The special thing about this video is:
The first bout, I love the hit. Learnt it from Mr. John Clements' book!
Also, one of the bout I used a Zornhat -> Zwerchau (thanks Ryan again!), since it was too light, it wasn't count. The force was not enough to make a mortal wound.
