Weapon combat.

Postby Johan Matsson » Wed Sep 01, 2004 9:12 am

I have read alot on this site and other sites about different swordtechniques and about swordfighting. But I have seen very little in the way of techniques with other weapons like axes and polearms.
So I was wondering if people just grabbed thos weapons and did the best they could with them or if there where some kind of wepontraining with other weapons like there were with swords.

Hello Johan

There is alot in the manual's we use on pole weapon's, i've seen very little(actualy i have seen nothing) about axe's, pole weapon's though were trained in and they were used in some duel's, Longsword is were most everyone here start's it is the base weapon for most and alot of the technique's translate to pole weapon's.

If you browse some of the manuscript's in the reading and research you will see some pole weapon technique.

Hey man, you may want to look at Rector's "Medieval Combat", which is his translation of Talhoffer (1467 AD). In it is fine section regarding the pollaxe or ravens-beak or bec-de-corbin or whatever you want to call it. JH

Not to mention this 15th century treaty on the Poleaxe.

This is a very nice study on poleaxe.
