Welcome to ARMA! It's really cool to see so many new names on the list, especially all the non-English ones. It just goes to show the universal appeal of a sound martial and scholarly approach, not to mention the type of folks you can actually trust to swing a sword at your head.

Daniel Urbach, I have a feeling you'll be relaying some ARMA letters to Santa Claus this year!

Welcome to all the new members. As a four year veteran, I can only say that it gets better and more interesting as time goes by. You become more confident in your abilities. The techniques you learn become automatic, which allows you to see and understand more. We are all students, from John Clements to the newest member. We all learn at differnet levels and paces. We are rediscovering and re-learning lost martial skills. Everyone has something to contribute regardless of experience or age. I still have two new books I haven't read yet. The learning process never stops, and the ARMA method of learning always works. Stay with it, you'll get it. Then you'll want more. And, first chance you get, go to an ARMA workshop or event. I've been to several, and they are always a blast. You learn a lot and get to cross swords with your peers from all over, plus rub shoulders with the best swordsmen and scholars in the world. Very cool.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, I want to thank everyone who has been so kind helping all of us newbies out.

I am still blown away by all the dedication and hard work going into this, what a noble cause! History, being re-discoverd and resurrected, it gives me the willies just thinking about it. I have really just begun my training but, the benefits I get from it, strength, coordination, ballance, etc... not to mention the persuit of martial discipline, it really has affected almost every part of my life. I know that my training partners in ARMA-Appleton, are also just as excited, and I have been very fortunate to have such good partners from the get-go! I only wish I would have found out about ARMA years ago.

Thanks again to everyone, and keep discovering, training, and passing on what you have learned. WMA as a whole will only grow, and ARMA leads the way!

Let me add that I am continually heartened by the numbers of people around the world committing to our campaign for excellence in the discipline of historical fencing studies. Our ratio of new and returning members this summer and fall has been astounding. This does not even reflect the many academic contributors behind the scenes doing translation and research for us because they respect our commitment to integrity and our distinct lack of pretense. Additionally, our reputation among the Asian martial arts community continues to gain respect through demonstration and scholarship.

Across the board here is there an understanding at work that Renaissance fencing skills are not a chivalric fantasy sport, duelling game, or re-creational role-playing amusement, but a modern combative discipline.

Thanks to all,

JC
