Hey Archy
I am working on the assumption your young and in experienced, and there are those in the world of "historical martial art's" who realy haven't had alot of experience with handling actual historic weapon's me being one of them, in JC's article if you notice the photo's they are actual piece i trust JC's opinion more than most because he has handled so many actual historic piece's not replica's and he is a professional spathologist and researcher for him this is not a hobby or something he just enjoy's doing it is his job.
There are many sport fencer's out there who do write artical's on rapier's and such and say they are historic fencer's they usualy do not go back further than the 1700-1800 about the time fencing changed and firearm's were becoming the norm and say that they have handled historic piece's when they were handling "Victorian" era replica's or show piece's.
In short what i am saying is i would tend to believe JC's article more than other's when i see contradiction.
I tend to take everything with a grain of salt, this is MHO.
