What do you call 2 attacks made in succession?

Postby alexyeoh » Fri Feb 18, 2005 8:37 pm

Hi there,

I am designing a game, and I need an authentic sounding name for a generic attack, followed by another attack to the same opponent. Sort of a follow-up attack.

Any suggestions? I would like something based on real-life terms.

thanks!!

Before you go reinventing the wheel, you might want to check out Jake Norwood's Riddle Of Steel, which has the most realistic RPG combat system I have seen to date. Far better than the AD&D thing that currently lists the greatsword as weighing 10 pounds, among other problems.

there is a fencing term called a 'remiese' (I probably butchered that spelling-- silly French terms) - where its kind of a resumed attack. Not sure if it really applies though
"Why is there a picture of a man with a sword in his head on your desk?" -friends inquiry

thank-you for the TROS suggestion, however I already know about TROS. That doesn't mean that I am reinventing the wheel just because I want to design a different system. TROS is not to everyone's tastes you know.

In my opinion TROS handles the dynamics of combat realistically, but you do lose the essence of fantasy combat. Every player has his character killed within a year in TROS - and this doesn't happen in a fantasy story.

I on the other hand want to duplicate a fantasy story, but in a way that is real. I don't want to create a video game reality like D&D, but I want to create a living breathing fantasy loosely based on reality - like the Lord of the Rings.

That is why it is important for me to get combat to feel real, even though the results of which are heroic, rather than brutally realistic.

Everyone has their own idea about what makes the best kind of RPG. By designing an RPG specifically to simulate a fantasy novel such as Tolkien's or RE Howard, I don't see how I can go wrong.

cheers.

If you looking for ideas or specific techniques then check out the Historical Terms and Definitions on the main page.
