Chris Dutcher in our study group can testify how much it hurts when your knuckles are smashed by a waster. John Mills can also testify to the pain of a strike to side of the knee as I'm sure all western martial artists can testify too. John's thought on Chris was "I bet he'll never put his hand out there again <img src="/forum/images/icons/shocked.gif" alt="" /> " But still we must train safely.
ARMA emphasis safety in training. Either using historical or modern means of safety equipment the scholar must ensure his/her safety and that of the safety of those you train with or around you.
Looking through our catalogs at work for law enforncement/military I found an excellent and inexpensive sparring and waster use gloves. They are less bulky than hockey gloves and less expensive then those who are attempting to make a "waster glove". There are other items of safety as well.
These are riot gear gloves with kevlar, very, very tough. Very durable. Price $39.99
