Folks,
Eric Winkler, ARMA-Appleton's resident professional cabinet maker, and mad scientist, has developed a very exciting type of waster.
He has milled a piece of semi-translucent type of plastic, into a waster. The piece handles very much like steel in it's ability to flex. It is tough as nails and I highly doubt it will break. The coolest part about it in my view is how it interacts with another of the same type- very similar to how steel feels. They slide, bind and flex on each other as well behaving just like steel does and that "bouncing effect" that wood has, is very minimal with these "plastic" wasters.
To top it off, there seems to be hardly any denting of the material either from impacts of opposing wasters, especially with the plastic on plastic- and Eric tells me the cost relative to wood is significantly less.
Eric has made the cross out of a sanwhich of purpleheart and a very blond, hardwood which looks really sharp. I am very excited by our first tests of these babies-I will post more on them soon, including some pictures- Aaron
