More videos of sparring?

Postby Jonathan Newhall » Sat May 09, 2009 1:17 pm

Would any ARMA members mind posting up some new videos of them sparring with a long sword or similar? I'm just at the part where I'm beginning to incorporate a training partner into my training so any kind of demonstrations I can see would be great!

I'm aware of the awesome federschwechter free play at iron door as well as one or two other videos, but I'd love more as I'm sure a lot of people without real group access would.

I've seen a few with nylon wasters and I believe two unarmored bouts with blunts (Aaron P. was in one [or was it both, I don't remember honestly :( ] and Clements was in the other [the iron door one]).

They've more or less entirely been from Iron Door, I was just wondering about any others (or more recent ones, the most recent I've seen was from 2008 I believe).

I have a goal of putting some up this summer. Nothing fancy. Just me beating up on my friends, and mostly so I can see myself spar. I'll let you know if I actually get around to it though.

What is the ARMA policy of uploading videos onto youtube?

It looks like a good number of youtube users have put some of the public material up. Some are definitely ARMA members (swordandbuckler, irondoorstudios) but some of them I dunno.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but I think there is nothing against it as long as it isn't the ARMA curricula that you are posting.

Check with the director, John Clements, first before posting anything on YouTube. I think JC wants to ensure that ARMA members only post quality videos and not a bunch of crap like so much of what is seen on YouTube.

Remember that what you post to the public reflects upon the whole organization!

As for ensuring quality videos--do you also mean the videos already posted in the videos section of the public ARMA webpage?
Essentially, posting those on youtube is just bringing the same public material to a more accessed area, so I don't see how it would be a matter of "quality" unless you mean technical quality.

I think Ran's talking about people posting random videos of their group, that may or may not show ARMA in the right light.

i.e. ARMA is about showing that RMA is a legitimate martial art. It doesn't look that way if members post videos, of sparring matches that are generally silly, or with large amounts of conversation.

Ran, let me know if I'm putting words in your mouth.

We want publicity, but we want to put our best foot forward as well.
