Turns out there's actually a group about twenty minutes from you if you're interested in finding direct training partners. There's apparently a Tattershall School of Defense group--I don't know if it's their main school or just a satellite group--located in Mesa, Arizona, which my Google maps puts at around 19 minutes city-to-city from Chandler. They mostly study the Italians, as I understand it, but there's nothing like having a training partner with even a little more experience than you to help you out at this stage of the game.
I found them on the group locator map on the site I mentioned earlier (hemaalliance.com). I'd totally forgotten we had a training partner locator on there.

Anyway, you can find them, as well as one or two other groups in AZ that are a bit farther away, over there if you're interested in checking them out.
Anyway, good luck finding some solid advice and training partners. Feel free to PM me if you want some specific advice; I was in your exact position just a couple of years ago.
