First the guns go, the next thing you know you have to register your nail file

"What we've found is as you get tougher on a particular type of weapon, criminals move to other weapons," he told reporters.

i'm sorry to be political here, but this is why gun control doesn't work.

futhermore, based on the same logic, it is futile for the international community to try and control WMD (improvised nuclear, chemical, biological, radiological weapons). it is extremely easy to improvise these weapons from legitimate commercial products. furthermore, improvised bombs made from nitrate fertilizer and conventional HE are very easy to make.

so the point is, why not focus on apprehending the terrorists/criminals themselves? due to the amorphous and dynamic nature of the threat they pose, it is inefficient to control their means of attack.

Because it is easier for a politician to ban an object and then point and say "see what I have done to make you and yours safer" than it is to actually catch criminals/terrorists. This is a most unfortunate trend for Australia and it's people. They had already banned just about everything else, now they are are going after swords.

I don't want to go any further in this direction, this already skirts too close to politics and too far away from swords.
